Laina Vaughn

Laina VaughnLaina is an Assistant Attorney General I for the Cherokee Nation who has represented the Nation in tribal and state courts since 2014.  She represents the Nation in prosecuting child support cases, criminal cases and cases involving children.

Before joining the legal team at Cherokee Nation, she worked with the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Support Services as the State’s Attorney prosecuting child support cases in administrative court as well as multiple district courts within the state of Oklahoma.

Laina has also served as a prosecutor for the 15th judicial district of Oklahoma (Wagoner and Cherokee Counties) prosecuting domestic violence crimes and crimes involving women and children.

Prior to moving into the public sector, Laina was a sole practitioner with her focus primarily in the areas of criminal defense and family law. While in private practice, she also provided criminal defense services to the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System in Wagoner County, Oklahoma.

Laina is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Court and the courts of the State of Oklahoma.

She attended the University of Tulsa where she obtained her juris doctor.  Prior to attending the University of Tulsa, she attended Northeastern State University where she obtained a bachelor’s of Business Administration degree.
